| Artist's (Quilt Maker) Statement: |
Full-length portraits of four women represent the seasons of the year.
The youngest being spring and the oldest winter. Painted in 1894, they
are romanticized, idealized visions of art nouveau female beauty. They
are one man's dreams of beauty.
I believe Alphonse Mucha to be the greatest decorative artist of the
Millennium. The true challenge of creating this quilt was to faithfully
reproduce Mucha’s portraits in cloth using only commercially available
fabrics and threads. No pieces in this quilt were specifically dyed or
painted to achieve the desired affects in this work. |
